Online Panel Discussion on German Americana
The Stiftung Verbundenheit, a German-based organization that promotes German culture and language abroad, hosted an online panel discussion on May 20, 2026.
GAHF’s executive director, Katja Sipple, joined the representatives of other organizations to talk about the German-speaking community in the United States, the status quo and future perspectives. Please visit https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BEaJk6LwB/ to see a recording of yesterday’s Facebook livestream. Please note that this discussion is in German. Stephan Mayer, a member of the German Parliament, provided the welcome message, and pointed out how important cultural connections are in forging interpersonal relationships that can then positively impact other areas and issues. Unlike, for example our Irish and Italian American friends, the descendants of German-speaking immigrants do not form a strong and/or recognized group, and despite numbering some 45 million people (still the largest ethnic group), we do not play a significant role in transatlantic relations.
How do we galvanize this large community to become a national and international voice? Thoughts? Please reach out to Katja Sipple at [email protected]/
