Book Launch — "The New Land" (In Person and via Zoom)
“A dazzling and wrenching novel of history that marks the beginning of an American epic. A story of immigration, the inheritance of violence, and the love of a father for his son, told in language that stings with salt and sawdust and gunpowder.”
Kent Wascom, author of The New Inheritors
Join accomplished author David O. Stewart to celebrate the launch of his new book, The New Land, a historical novel featuring 18th century German settlers carving out a new life on the rugged coast of Maine.
A lawyer by training, David has written several books, including a much praised biography about George Washington, which won the History Prize of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Jersey. The New Land is the first part of The Overstreet Saga trilogy, which is inspired by the experiences of his mother’s family who immigrated in the 1750s. In it, he describes the travails of a German family that lands on this continent in 1753, and contends with an unforgiving climate, rampant disease, a bloody war with Indians and Frenchmen, and the war for independence from Britain. The second book, The Burning Land, traces descendants through the Civil War era, and will release in late spring 2022; book three, The Resolute Land, picks up the Overstreets in the global upheaval of World War II, and will launch late next year.
