Germans, Graves, and Ghosts - An Evening with Historian Bill Oosterman

Join us for an exciting evening of ghostly history and folklore with editor and translator Bill Oosterman on Thursday, October 25th from 6 - 8 pm. Oosterman is a native of Lancaster, PA  whose Palatine and Swiss ancestors arrived there in 1712 and have been there ever since, mostly now under mossy tombstones. He has degrees is languages and history, and has been involved in local history and museum work for years. In his talk, he will speak about the Pennsylvania (and by extension Maryland and Virginia) Dutch history and folk culture, with heavy, even ponderous emphasis on death, funerals, graves, graveyards, and ghosts and ghost stories. His lecture will span from common tales that you may be surprised to find have German origins to lesser known legends that will delight and intrigue guests! Don't miss out on this fun evening of Pennsylvania Dutch folktales and folklore with a spooky twist!

Light refreshments will be served.

Cost: $12 for nonmembers; $8 for members and students.

Your RSVP is kindly requested by Tuesday, October 23 to [email protected] or 202.467.5000. You may also RSVP by purchasing an online ticket here. Please note that admittance to the event is dependent upon an RSVP!

Location: German-American Heritage Foundation, 719 6th St. NW, Washington, DC 20001
