Sponsored by the Association of German-American Societies of Greater Washington, DC (AGAS) with representatives from the German Information Center and the National Park Service, celebrations were held at the German-American Friendship Garden on the National Mall in observance of German-American Day!

Happy Day of German Unity!

Happy Day of German Unity! Today marks the 26th anniversary of the unification of East and West Germany. Although the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989 symbolically united East and West Germany, the Treaty of Unification, signed by both states in August 1990, became effective on October 3, 1990.
Tag der Deutschen Einheit, or the Day of German Unity, is a national holiday in Germany with official celebrations in a different city each year. This year, the celebrations take place in Dresden.

The opening reception for Lawyers Without Rights was a great success. We would especially like to thank our guest speakers, Judge Marian Blank Horn, Robert Gross, Phillip Carter, and Michael Stein for their personal familial accounts that tied perfectly into the exhibit narrative. In addition, we would like to thank the Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer (German Federal Bar) and the American Bar Association, who are responsable for the creation of this powerful exhibit.
