Personal & Mission Statement

Markus Grunewald is the CEO and majority shareholder of Morex Ribbon, a decorative ribbon importer, converter, and national/international distributor. A significant portion of their ribbons are made in Germany and Switzerland. He was born in Wuppertal, Germany where he completed his master’s degree in computer science at the University of Dortmund. After traveling between Germany and the USA in 1992, he moved to the US in April 1993.

It was a tough start for the company, but with perseverance, he was able to enjoy and live the American Dream. After 18 years of residency, Markus became a US citizen in 2011 while also maintaining his German nationality. Sales at Morex eventually doubled every four years from 1992 to 2006. Morex, which stands for more exclusive, received best supplier awards from A.C. Moore and Michaels due to their creative products and excellent operational performance.

Markus became a GAHF member in the early 1990s but did not participate in any events until the Gala with Peter Thiel in 2017. One of his board member goals would be to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2027 with a potential award recipient in the caliber of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sandra Bullock, or Jürgen Klinsmann.

As CEO of Morex Ribbon, he is deeply committed to fostering our cultural heritage. He is looking forward to re-inventing the GAHF to ensure success for another 50 years. He believes in being a valuable board member utilizing his analytical skills, creative ideas, out-of-the-box thinking, and networking talents. Collaborating with local or national associations like the Rotary Club could provide GAHF with more exposure.

Supporting the German Automobile companies could lead to a mutually beneficial relationship with strong financial sponsors. Exploring how to engage with Aldi and Lidl, as well as other German brands. After becoming a US citizen, Markus established personal connections with my local and statewide elected officials that he would like to utilize for GAHF. He is a passionate frequent flyer and hotel points collector. He can envision GAHF mapping out a trip to Germany via selective credit card sign-ups to become a destination of knowledge for travel enthusiasts. The sky is the limit.
