I have previously served as a board member of GAHF, and twice as president. We are one year out from the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. I believe that this momentous event will inspire every American to consider the blessings of liberty their families have enjoyed in this country, and to reflect on how their families arrived here. GAHF will serve them as a valuable resource.
Next year, our country will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and Americans will reflect on those men and women who achieved our freedom and set us on our noble experiment in self-governance. Many of those men and women in the founding era who materially aided the cause of independence descended from German-speaking emigrants from central Europe – people whom we would today call Germans, Austrians, and Swiss.
I believe that the German-American Heritage Foundation of the USA must work with partner organizations to inspire Americans to learn more about those individuals and families – and perhaps learn about their own family connections through colonial patriots back to the villages in Europe where their own ancestors came from.
