Erin Perks – Director

Personal & Mission Statement

Erin’s international career and personal journey have given her a deep appreciation for cultural heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations. Although she did not have a strong connection to German heritage growing up, she had an opportunity to connect with the beauty of the region through her first job out of college in Munich, Bavaria. Over four years, she lived in several cities across Germany, and was profoundly impacted by the people and the history she experienced. After living in Germany, Erin spent time in South Africa, where she continued to deepen her global perspective. Now, her husband and she live in Atlanta with their three children, and remain passionate about fostering cultural ties within their family and the expat community in particular.

With nearly a decade of experience in international tax, she understands the critical role financial planning and sustainable funding play in the longevity of an organization’s mission. Her financial expertise and its applicability to the nonprofit sector, draw her to the work of the German-American Heritage Foundation in preserving and sharing the rich contributions of the German-speaking world. Ensuring that this history remains accessible and engaging for future generations requires strategic planning, strong partnerships, and financial stewardship. She wants to contribute to these efforts, supporting the mission of GAHF to strengthen transatlantic cultural and economic ties while celebrating and preserving our shared heritage.

Erin understands firsthand the profound impact of reconnecting with one’s heritage. Although her German roots were always a part of her, it wasn’t until she lived and worked in Germany that she truly embraced that aspect of her cultural identity. Her experience shaped an appreciation for the deep historical ties between Germany and the United States, and reinforced the importance of preserving and sharing that legacy. As someone who has spent years living abroad and navigating life as an expat, she is passionate about fostering cultural connections—not just for her own family but for others who seek to honor and understand their heritage.
