ROBERT B. ZOELLICK HONORED AS THE GERMAN-AMERICAN OF THE YEAR 2011 ON DECEMBER 21, 2011.

 

WASHINGTON, DC (November 3, 2011) – Robert B. Zoellick will be honored by the German-American Heritage Foundation of the USA® as the 2011 Distinguished German-American of the YearTM. The Awards and Fundraising Gala will be held on Wednesday evening December 21, 2011 at the residence of the German Ambassador, Dr. Peter Ammon. The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Werner Hoyer, will give a keynote speech in compliment to the President of the World Bank, Robert B. Zoellick.


The Award provides recognition for outstanding leadership by Americans of German-speaking ancestry in business, the arts, education, science, politics and society.
The Distinguished German-American of the Year award will be bestowed on Mr. Robert Zoellick, for his decade’s long contributions of fostering relations between the United States and Germany and his achievements as an international leader to bringing prosperity and stability to the less developed countries.


“Bob Zoellick is one of the most competent and inspiring leaders of the world today,” said Ruediger Lentz, Executive Director of the German-American Heritage Foundation. “His German heritage and his commitment to fostering the relations between the United States and Germany, especially during the time of reunification, which he was seeing through as a close aide and a legal counsel to President Bush, senior and Secretary of State James Baker, makes Bob Zoellick an outstanding person really deserving the Distinguished German of the Year Award.”


Robert B. Zoellick is the eleventh President of the World Bank, a position he has held since July 1, 2007. He was previously the Vice Chairman, International, of Goldman Sachs Group, and a Managing Director and Chairman of Goldman Sach’s Board of International Advisors. He has served in a number of senior positions in successive US administrations, including as Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of State, and as U.S. Trade Representative (2001-05). He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy, US Department of Treasury, and Undersecretary for Economic and Agricultural Affairs and Counselor in the U.S. State Department.
Mr. Zoellick has a J.D., magna cum laude, Harvard Law School, and a M.P.P. (in public management and international issues) from the Kennedy School of Government. In addition, Mr. Zoellick has received numerous distinguished service awards, including: the Knight Commanders Cross from Germany for his work on unification; the Alexander Hamilton and Distinguished Service Awards, the highest honors of the Departments of Treasury and State, respectively; the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service; and a Doctorate of Humane Letters from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana.
