Message from the Executive Director April 2017

We are delighted to introduce our new monthly e-newsletter GAHF Club Connect, which compliments our regular e-newsletter and is solely dedicated to highlighting our German-American member clubs and organizations and their activities. Since our establishment 40 years ago, our mission has been to serve as the umbrella organization in the nation’s capital for German-American clubs and organizations across the country.

German-Americans have a unique club tradition ranging from Sängerbünde to Turnvereine.  Clubs served as the place immigrants could turn to for social interaction and support, from taking care of the elderly (Altersheime – now nursing homes) to childcare (Kindergarten). The role has shifted over the years, but the clubs keep the German-American traditions alive through festivals, concerts, parades and other gatherings.
Our objective is to showcase our clubs’ history and stories; celebrate their memorable days;  and announce their activities.
Get to learn the German-American organizations in your community and explore your heritage.
If you are a club, send us your activities and events or articles you want to have published. We will be happy to showcase your events and stories on our website under news and our social media as well. Please contact Carl Anderson at [email protected].
